Celebrating Filipinx American History Month
Filipinx American History Month (FAHM) is celebrated in October to commemorate the first recorded arrival of Filipinx peoples in America. The month uses the descriptor “history” verses “heritage” because of its focus on historical events, experiences and impacts of the Filipinx community in the United States.
As a designated Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), Chabot College honors the role that Filipinx Americans have played in building and changing our nation.
As the second largest Asian American group in California, Filipinx Americans have a distinct footprint in our community and our campus. I am excited about the many ways we can explore the history, identity and traditions of the Filipinx community through the different FAHM events scheduled on our campus throughout this month. An event coming up this Wednesday (10/16), focuses on the ancient script of the Philippines, called Baybayin.
These events are only made possible due to the culturally responsive programs and volunteer organizations at Chabot College that teach us about the deep history of Filipinx Americans and help us share in their experience. I extend my appreciation to the Barangay Chabot student club, the Movement learning community, and the Asian Pacific Islander Education Association (APIEA) for their contributions.
I hope you can join me and the Chabot campus community in celebrating Filipinx American History Month by going to the FAHM events and by showing your support with this Zoom background.

President's Welcome
Welcome to Chabot College! For over 60 years, Chabot has helped students meet their academic, social, and employment dreams, goals and aspirations.
I am honored to start my presidency as Chabot’s 10th College President. I am humbled to lead our prestigious institution and excited about the tremendous potential in our programs and services as we aspire to be the best community college in the state.
Chabot College will start this academic year with a number of established and exciting new programs and resources such as our outstanding HSI STEM grant that promotes a STEM Summer Bridge program, offers embedded tutoring, work-based learning, and comprehensive student services, and encourages completion/transfer to STEM majors at 4-year universities. We are also developing a basic needs student success center, referred to as THE HUB, which will house our food pantry, student direct aid, community resources, CAL Fresh Food assistance, and school supplies. Moreover, our academic offerings have expanded by increasing the number of online classes, non-credit, and dual enrollment offerings.
